@lazy coconut Go back and look on the history of Messi...he has real medical issues and would have never survived in the wild...as for a sanctuary why seems he likes his home and have you seen the field he takes the cat to walk in...its huge...sure there's prob a bit of social media fame going on but I'm betting most goes to the cats medical and food needs, Seriously its a cougar, a bowl of kibble isn't going to feed him. that all doesn't even count the education visits to various places to show and help people understand about cougars which BTW zoos and sanctuaries are and do also

@lazy coconut He was at a sanctuary where they couldn't take care of him. If he was "with his own kind", he'd be DEAD. The other male's would kill him! You clearly haven't watched this for very long and don't know the circumstances of what Messi's health issue's are. He has serious medical issues which make him 30% smaller than the average male Puma & would NOT survive in the wild. They have taken great care of him, at great expensive btw. They have a larger home under construction right now. Just like the rest of us, it has taken them time to save money & the house is nearly complete. Also, you can tell a lot about any animals circumstance by their demeanor. Messi seems pretty damn happy & continent to me.

Oh, you said it all in a few words, my friend. Yes, the couple who saved Messi's life for the petting zoo was considering taking him down bc he had some illnesses. The couple returned and adopted him and took him to a vet ASAP. Behind the fact one of the medical conditions affected his bone growth we see him short here. The reason he needs to have body mass muscle to protect his bones. He is named after a famous soccer player name Messi. Named by the petting zoo, as well as his two brothers were named after famous sportsmen. As we see Messi now, fast forward in 2021 Messi has come far doing well in his progress. I saw him in a video right at the time he was adopted, he appeared scruffy, hungry, looked like he was a homeless alley cat, and uncared for properly.

@lazy coconut do some research. There's a reason Messi i being taken care of like this. I agree people SHOULD NEVER be allowed to keep wild animals as pets but this is a rare instance where it is actually neccesary for the cats well being.

Bigger cats tend to be less ferocious and more even tempered than small cats. They also have higher brain capacity like dogs.

Keeping a wild cat is dangerous and should not be allowed. In this case Messi is far from wild, he grew up around humans and is more tamed than a house cat.
