More than 25 years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting a full grown cougar named "Satchel Charge" up in Lake Tahoe, California, about 68 kilos or so. Spent some time with his US Marine owner/companion, petting the cougar and even having him take my hand in his mouth. I've wanted one ever since. One thing many don't realize is that being one of the smallest of the big cats, they can still draw blood just by licking you with their barbed tongue. Messi and Satchel Charge share something in common. They both have/had the same beautiful, trusting look in their eyes. I've had a number of wild animals make friends with me over the years. A crow, an owl, a fox, small birds, several wild mice and even a family of skunks which lived on our property that I hand fed. It is a joy to be a friend with such animals, especially the skunks and the mice. Beautiful creatures. I firmly believe that such animals become more "human" when they befriend us and it shows in how they move around us and especially in their eyes. I've had cats which seemed to communicate only by looking into mine and somehow getting me to do exactly what they wanted. Messi seems very good at that.
